THE CHILD: BUILDING COMPETENCIES, SOCIAL SKILLS, SELF-ESTEEM AND CONFIDENCE

PHILOSOPHY:

  • Each child is special and unique.

  • Children come to us with diverse knowledge and abilities. They are capable, curious and interested in the world around them.

  • Every aspect of development is equally important.

  • Each child is entitled to an early education that promotes his/her growth and potential.

  • Children learn by doing. They actively construct their knowledge through manipulating, exploring, experimenting, and investigating.

  • Children process information in a variety of ways based on different learning styles.

  • Play is the most important medium for children’s learning.

  • When educators play with children they a) demonstrate interest in and caring for the children; b) provide opportunities for developing social, language, and problem-solving skills; and c) assist children in building knowledge and new competencies.

GOALS:

  • To provide a safe, healthy and supportive environment that understands, respects, responds to and nurtures each child’s uniqueness

  • To focus on building each child’s sense of self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth

  • To develop well-rounded curriculum that reflects the interests of the children

  • To provide positive guidance and meaningful learning opportunities that emerge from these interests, curiosities, and developing skill levels

  • To ensure that learning opportunities reflect an understanding of multiple intelligences and different learning styles.

  • To ensure that all staff receive ongoing and appropriate training.

THE FAMILY: CHILDCARE IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE BUT A SUPPLEMENT TO FAMILY LIFE.

PHILOSOPHY:

  • Partnering with parents is critical in ensuring the quality and success of our programmes.

  • We respect the values, differences, needs and interests of individual families.

GOALS:

  • To meet the needs of children, parents and staff through a mutually beneficial partnership

  • To encourage and welcome parents’ knowledge, experiences, ideas and input

  • To demonstrate respect for each family’s uniqueness
